DIALOGUE

On The Wind

"It will be getting dark soon. They won't be able to look for you until tomorrow."

"Worried? Afraid I might finish what I started?"

"We both know you're in no condition to do so. How is your arm?"

"It feels as if a bullet was shot through it."

"Hmmmm, you are lucky I don't use hollow points."

"Yeah, I am feeling real lucky right now. Damn it's cold."

"Temperature is dropping. It tends to get cold rather rapidly up here in the mountains.

"Regretting you didn't turn back when you could have?"

"I have many regrets, being here is not one of them."

"Nothing better to do than chase after me through 40 miles of mountain terrain, huh? Must be hell losing everyone you ever cared for to a cause you no longer believe in."

"Who says I ever believed in it? I was given a task and I performed it. Just as you once did. I was never given a choice."

"There was a time when you fought against that. When you would lie, cheat, outwhip or outsmart them to give us a choice. What happened?

"I don't owe you an explanation for my actions."

"Someday you will..........if not to me then to someone. Just as I will answer for what I have done."

"Ah yes. But you've 'changed' haven't you? You're no longer one of the fallen. Found your place with the innocents, using your talents to fight the oppressive evils of the world."

"You say that sarcastically. Yet I was never a killer until you made me one."

"Blaming me now?"

"No. Never for that. I could have chosen Row 8, plot 30."

"That was never a choice. They had bigger things in mind for you. Just never occurred to them that one day you would be using your skills against them."

"Yes. The War crippled the organization and gave me the chance I had been waiting for. The chance to fight for something I believed in, to die for something real."

"Many people die, you don't have to be one of them."

"Sounds like you're about to make me a deal. In case you hadn't noticed, we're on opposite sides of the fence now."

"I think I noticed that when you pointed a Browning 9mm at me."

"Surprised?"

"No. Disappointed. You shouldn't have missed."

"I didn't expect you to have back-up. You usually work alone."

"They insisted I bring company this time."

"Mmm, didn't trust you alone with me, did they?"

"I'm alone with you now."

"Not afraid?"

"More afraid than I have ever been in my life. You realize that once they find you, they will cancel you. There won't be any last minute deals or reprieves."

"Some of us are still willing to pay that price for what we believe in."

"And some of you will. But, you don't have to be one of them."

"Back to that are we? Still trying to save me from myself? You don't get it do you? What I'm doing now is saving me................ "

"Give me your promise that you won't interfere with this and I'll get you off this mountain in one piece."

"No. Very generous of you though."

"You always were stubborn."

"Maybe. You weren't always so gullible. Or perhaps you know you are wrong. Maybe you figure that it's to late for you. It takes a lot of character to admit the course you've chosen isn't the right path. So much safer to stay on the same course you've committed yourself to. Never having to feel, to experience happiness or loss. Alone and safe."

"I don't consider this easy. As for the path I have taken, it was mine to take. And I think I should remind you that your current path is leading straight to your grave."

"Heartless bastard."

"Sticks and stones Ma Cherie."

"You know, I'm disappointed in myself also."

"How so?"

"I should have taken the shot the moment you came into sight."

"If you had you wouldn't be here. My partner would not have aimed for your arm."

"Lucky for you, I took him out first."

"Yeah, I am feeling real lucky right now."

"Damn it's cold out here!"

"Even colder than you know."
